To build a friendly community where all students belong and play chess regardless of their knowledge and levels.
To organize competitive tournaments for YTU students, host events for all other University students as well and more importantly, to honor YTU by winning awards at those events.
The very start of the club: In 2015, with all great purposes, former club president "Min Thu Rein Tun from Metallurgy major started the club altogether with some like-minded students. He organized tournaments at Dining hall and later the club got more support from Students Union, students themselves and Departments. Consequently, the club got its own private space at the Engineering Physics department.
Every Wednesday, club members along with other interested students would gather and play chess. Sometimes, we learn. Sometimes, we discuss our plans, but mostly, we enjoy playing chess. Every year, the club organizes the YTU chess tournament in "YTU Monsoon Festival". Additionally, the club also organizes time control focus tournaments such as "YTU Rapid chess tournament". Lately, the club also showed that its potential has no boundaries by participating in big chess events in other cities such as "Myeik International Chess rated Tournament by FIDE". Current President "Aung Thura Tun" won 2nd prize in U-25 categories and current active player "Khin Rupar Thin" won 2nd prize in "Best Female players" categories. Since then, YTU Chess clu b has secured its prestigious name in the Myanmar Chess Community.
