The department of the Electrical Power Engineering was established in 1962 at the Burma Institute of Technology (BIT). At that time, students from the Department of Electrical Power Engineering and the Department of Electronic Engineering had to study subjects up to the fourth year. They began to study their specialized subjects in the fifth year. In 1965, since B.Sc. (Eng.) Degree was changed to B.E Degree, B.E ( Electrical Power) and B.E (Electrical Communication) Degrees were awarded. The first master's degree was launched in 1970 and Ph.D. programs were introduced in 2001.
